Benary recognizes that high quality seed begins with superior genetics. When a variety falls short in its genetic ability to produce seed with a high germination capacity and vigor it is not released to the market. But the work doesn’t stop there.

Benary’s Research and Development team actively pursue new developments in methods of cleaning, coating, and improving germination and uniformity. They utilize greenhouse plug tests as well as lab tests to verify their results.

In seed production, seed quality begins with selecting the optimum growing locations and applying sophisticated crop management practices. State of the art harvesting methods at the proper time insures only pure, mature and undamaged seed is delivered for further refinement.

Each production lot is germination tested in the lab and each lot is tested in a field or greenhouse trial to insure varietal correctness and purity. The Seed Tech Department further cleans and refines the seed. Innovative seed enhancement practices are applied; grading and sizing, rubbing and detailing, coating and pelleting, priming and treating.

Species-specific optimum climatic conditions are provided during storage to preserve the high seed quality that is ready for sale. Germination capacity is tested at regular intervals to ensure that only seed with a high germination capacity is shipped.

To ensure high seed quality even after the seed has left our climatic controlled storage facilities, we use packaging that is light and water vapor proof for shipping.
