TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Life Cycle:  Perennial / first year flowering
Familiy, Origin:  Lamiaceae, Europe to Mid Asia
Sitelocation:  Full sun - partial shade
Garden Height:  18 cm
  7,09 inch
Natural flowertime:  June - August
Crop Time:  Plug crop: 7-9 weeks; Green pots: 10-12 weeks; Flowering pots: 16-22 weeks, annual production is possible; Flowering pots: 10-12 months, including wintering
Seed Form:  Raw Seed
Seed Count:  610 K/g
Sowing Time:  February-March for flowering in pots from June onwards, June-July for flowering in pots the following year
Sowing Method:  3-5 seeds per plug
Germination:  14-21 days at 18-22 °C, in media with very low soluble salt levels and pH: 5.5-7.0. Cover seed lightly with vermiculite after sowing. Keep soil wet (relative humidity: 100 %). Avoid direct sunlight by shading seed after sowing.
Plug Culture:  From Stage II* reduce the soil moisture, but the plug should not dry out and reduce the temperature to 18 °C. Do not let soluble salt level rise above 0,50 EC. Start fertilization at 50-75 ppm nitrogen in a well balanced formula. During Stage III and Stage IV fertilization levels can be increased to 150 ppm.
Growing On:  4-6 weeks after sowing transplant 1 plant per plug tray (4x4 cm). 6-10 weeks later transplant 1-2 plants into a pot (10-12 cm) and 3 plants into a bigger pot (13-15 cm). Two time transplantation supports root development and young plant quality.
Media:  Use a well-drained, growing perennial substrate with 10-20 % clay, 0-15 % parts (e.g. bark, wood fibres), 1-1,5 kg/m³ complete balanced fertilizer, 0-2 kg/m³ slow release fertilizer (3-6 months), iron-chelate, micronutrients, pH: 5.5-7.5.
Photoperiod / Light:  Long day plants. The long day (14 h) supports the flower initiation and flower development. In winter and early spring additional assimilation light is recommended.
Temperature:  Grow at 15-18 °C, later, when the roots development in pots should be very good, decrease the temperature to 12-15 °C. Cultivation outdoors is possible, too. In winter indoors frost free at 3-5 °C or outdoors. Outdoor fleece cover needed. In spring the plants start to grow at 15-18 °C. Cold temperatures at 12-15 °C will increase the cultivation time, but will promote a compact plant habit. A chilling period (vernalization) for flower initiation is not required. Keep cold temperatures for a good and compact growth and a good plant quality.
Fertilization:  Low-moderate fertilization levels are required. Fertilize the crop weekly with 100-150 ppm nitrogen (at 0 kg/m³ slow release fertilizer in substrate), using a complete balanced fertilizer. Avoid high ammonium and high nitrogen levels, because high nitrogen level will make the plants soft and the shoots will be stretched and fall apart. Don't fertilize after mid September. In spring fertilize 100-150 ppm nitrogen of a complete balanced fertilizer. Prevent magnesium deficiency by applying magnesium sulphate (0,05 %) 1-2 times and in case of iron deficiency apply iron-chelate for 1-2 times.
Cultural Hints:  Cultivate rather dry and avoid wet foliage. Check regularly for infection with Powerdry Mildew.

Hint
The cultural recommendations are based on results from trials conducted under Central European conditions. Different conditions in other parts of the world may lead to deviations in results achieved.
