J7060 - CRASPEDIA GLOBOSA, DRUMSTICKS
'Drumstick'

Round yellow flower heads on long leafless non-branching stems, for fresh and dried flower arrangements, basal leaf rosette

'Drumstick'

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Life Cycle:  Annual
Familiy, Origin:  Asteraceae, Australia
Sitelocation:  Full sun - partial shade
Garden Height:  60 cm
  23,62 inch
Natural flowertime:  July - August
Crop Time:  Plug crop: 8-10 weeks; Cut flower production: 20-24 weeks
Seed Form:  Raw Seed
Seed Count:  833 K/g
Sowing Method:  1-3 seeds per plug
Germination:  7-14 days at 18-22 °C in media with low soluble salt levels and pH: 5.8-6.5. Cover seed with vermiculite, sand or substrate after sowing. Keep soil slightly moist but not wet.
Plug Culture:  From Stage II* reduce the soil moisture, but the plug should not dry out and reduce the temperature to 18-20 °C. Do not let soluble salt level rise above 0,75 EC. Start fertilization at 50-75 ppm nitrogen in a well balanced formula. During Stage III and Stage IV fertilization levels can be increased to 100-150 ppm.
Growing On:  4-5 weeks after sowing transplant 1 plant per plug tray (3-4 cm). At March transplant into a field from poly tunnel or greenhouse (frost free). At May transplant into a field outdoors. Plant cut flowers in 25-30 x 30 cm space.
Media:  Use a well-drained, growing substrate with 15-30 % clay, 0-15 % perlite, 1-3 kg/m³ complete balanced fertilizer, iron-chelate, micronutrients, pH: 5.8-6.5. Field: loamy sandy soils with good drainage. Standard fertilization: 40-60 g/m² slow release fertilizer.
Photoperiod / Light:  Long day plant. For the flower initiation vegetative growth long day (13-14 h) are required. Keep light levels high.
Temperature:  Grow at 15-18 °C or outdoors. Temperatures below 13 °C will result in leaf chlorosis and will inhibit the growth. Craspedia does not tolerate frost.
Fertilization:  Low-moderate fertilization levels are required. Field: If necessary according to analysis, improve the soil with 10-20 g/m² fertilizer. N min soil value: approximately 60 g N/m².
Cut Flowers:  Cut flower stems can be harvested, when 50 % of the globular flowers are open. Vase life: very good. The stems can be harvested for dried flowers, when the pigmentation of the globular flowers are just visible.
Cultural Hints:  Production at high light levels and relative high temperatures. Craspedia is very sensitive to overwatering. Forcing in poly tunnel or in greenhouse is possible.

Hint
The cultural recommendations are based on results from trials conducted under Central European conditions. Different conditions in other parts of the world may lead to deviations in results achieved.
