TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Life Cycle:  Perennial
Familiy, Origin:  Plumbaginaceae, South-Europe
Sitelocation:  Full sun
Garden Height:  30 cm
  11,81 inch
Natural flowertime:  May - July
Crop Time:  Plug crop: 8 weeks; Green pots: 14-17 weeks; Flowering pots: 8-10 months, with vernalization; Cut flower production: 2-3 years
Sell Period:  April-October
Seed Form:  Rubbed Seed
Seed Count:  1250 K/g
Sowing Method:  2-3 seeds per plug
Germination:  4-10 days at 20-21 °C, in media with low soluble salt levels and pH: 5.8-7.0. Cover seed lightly with vermiculite after sowing. Keep soil slightly moist but not wet.
Plug Culture:  From Stage II reduce the soil moisture, but the plug should not dry out and reduce the temperature to 17-20 °C. Do not let soluble salt level rise above 0,5 EC. Start fertilization at 50 ppm nitrogen in a well balanced formula. During Stage III and Stage IV fertilization levels can be increased to 100 ppm.
Growing On:  3-4 weeks after sowing transplant 1-3 plants into a pack or pot (7-9 cm) and 4-5 plants into a bigger pot (10-15 cm). Plant cut flowers in 20-25 x 20-25 cm space.
Media:  Use a well-drained, growing perennial substrate with 0-15 % clay, 0-10 % sand, 0-15 % organic parts (e.g. bark), 1-1,5 kg/m³ complete balanced fertilizer, 1-2 kg/m³ slow release fertilizer (3-9 months), iron-chelate, micronutrients, pH: 5.8-7.0. Field: low loamy or humus sandy soils with good drainage. Standard fertilization: 50-80 g/m² slow release fertilizer.
Photoperiod / Light:  Day length neutral plants. Armeria needs high light levels. Start with supplemental lighting in early spring for an early crop.
Temperature:  Grow at 13-17 °C. In winter indoors frost free at 3-5 °C or outdoors. Outdoor fleece cover needed. In spring the plants start to grow for 10-11 weeks at 15-18 °C. Cold temperatures at 7-12 °C will increase the cultivation time. At temperatures below 7 °C the growth will stop.
Fertilization:  Low-moderate fertilization levels are required. Fertilize the crop weekly with 60-80 ppm nitrogen (at 2 kg/m³ slow release fertilizer in substrate), using a complete balanced fertilizer. Avoid high ammonium and high nitrogen levels. Don't fertilize after mid September. In spring fertilize with 60-80 ppm nitrogen of a complete balanced fertilizer. Prevent magnesium deficiency by applying magnesium sulphate (0,05 %) 1-2 times and in case of iron deficiency apply iron-chelate for 1-2 times. Field: If necessary according to analysis, improve the soil with 50-80 g/m² slow release fertilizer per year, applied in several portions.
Cut Flowers:  Cut flower stems can be harvested, when the petals show pigments and the staple is stretched. Vase life: 10-15 days. In the year harvest to 20-30 stems per plant. The flowers can be used for little floral arrangements.
Cultural Hints:  After planting and take off treat pots with fungicide against roots diseases and clean the plants well. The plant growth is slow and the plant develops a tap root. Dry, light and airy cultivation. The roots are very sensitive to wet substrates or soils.

Hint
The cultural recommendations are based on results from trials conducted under Central European conditions. Different conditions in other parts of the world may lead to deviations in results achieved.
