TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Life Cycle:  Perennial
Familiy, Origin:  Ranunculaceae, Europe, Japan, Siberia
Sitelocation:  Full sun- partial shade
Garden Height:  120 cm
  47,24 inch
Natural flowertime:  June - July
Crop Time:  Plug crop: 8-10 weeks; Green pots: 18-20 weeks; Flowering pots: 10-12 months, including vernalization; Cut flower production: 3-5 years
Sell Period:  May-October
Seed Form:  ApeX Seed and Raw Seed
Seed Count:  588 K/g
Sowing Time:  January-March for green pots; May-End July for flowering in pots the following year
Sowing Method:  3-5 seeds per plug
Germination:  10-20 days at 18-22 °C, in media with very low soluble salt levels and pH: 5.5-6.5. Requires light for germination. Do not cover seeds. Keep soil slightly moist but not wet. Avoid direct sunlight by shading seeds after sowing.
Plug Culture:  From Stage II* reduce the soil moisture, but the plug should not dry out and reduce the temperature to 15-18 °C. Do not let soluble salt level rise above 0,75 EC. Start fertilization at 75 ppm nitrogen in a well balanced formula. During Stage III and Stage IV fertilization levels can be increased to 100-150 ppm.
Growing On:  4-6 weeks after sowing transplant 1 plant per plug tray (4x4 cm). 12-14 weeks later transplant 1-3 plants into a pot (8-15 cm) und 3 plants into a container (3-5 l). After transplanting keep the tray, because it is possible that more seeds germinate at a later time. Two time transplantation supports root development and young plant quality. Plant cut flowers (frost free) in 80-100 x 40-50 cm space and use nets to keep the stems upright.
Media:  Use a well-drained, growing substrate with 0-15 % clay, 0-15 % parts (e.g. bark, wood fibres), 1-3 kg/m³ complete balanced fertilizer, 0-3 kg/m³ slow release fertilizer (3-9 months), iron-chelate, micronutrients, pH: 5.5-6.5. Field: loamy sandy, humus to sandy humus soils with good drainage. Standard fertilization: 80-100 g/² of a slow release fertilizer.
Photoperiod / Light:  Long day plants. Keep high light level. The long day (12-14 h) and high light intensity promote the flower initiation and flower development. In winter and in early spring additional assimilation light is required.
Temperature:  Grow at 10-18 °C or outdoors. In winter indoors frost free at 3-5 °C or outdoors. Outdoors fleece cover or mulch cover needed. In spring the plants start to grow at 10-12 °C. A chilling period (vernalization) is required for flower initiation. Thalictrum can also made to flower earlier at 10-12 °C in polytunnel.
Fertilization:  High fertilization levels are required. Fertilize the crop weekly with 100-150 ppm nitrogen (at 3 kg/m³ slow release fertilizer in substrate), using alternating a calcium nitrate fertilizer and a potassium balanced fertilizer (N: K2O-ratio: 1:1,5). Avoid high ammonium and high nitrogen levels. Don't fertilize after mid September. In spring fertilize 100-150 ppm nitrogen of a potassium balanced fertilizer (N: K2O-ratio: 1:1,5). Prevent magnesium deficiency by applying magnesium sulphate (0,05 %) 1-2 times and in case of iron deficiency apply iron-chelate for 1-2 times. Field: If necessary according to analysis, improve the soil with 80-100 g/m² of a slow release fertilizer, applied in several portions. Before harvest reduce the fertilization and after harvest fertilize at least once.
Cut Flowers:  Cut flower stems can be harvested, when the sepal show coloring. Vase life: sepals: 4-5 days and stamen: 7-10 days. The columbine-like foliage can be used as ornamental leaves in floristic arrangements.
Cultural Hints:  Take care of a constant water and nutrition supply, because water deficiency can be a cause for short flower stems. After harvest cut regularly the plants at the soil level (5-10 cm).

Hint
The cultural recommendations are based on results from trials conducted under Central European conditions. Different conditions in other parts of the world may lead to deviations in results achieved.
