TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Life Cycle:  Annual
Familiy, Origin:  Scrophulariaceae, North America
Sitelocation:  Full sun - partial shade
Garden Height:  25 cm
  9,84 inch
Crop Time:  Plug crop: 7-8 weeks; Flowering pots: 10-11 weeks
Sell Period:  April-July
Seed Form:  Raw Seed
Seed Count:  20000 K/g
Sowing Time:  February-April
Sowing Method:  1-3 seeds per plug, can be sown directly into pots or packs
Germination:  5-7 days at 15-21 °C, in media with low soluble salt levels and pH: 5.5-5.8. Requires light for germination. Before sowing treat substrate the fungicide against Pythium. Cover seed lightly with vermiculite after sowing. Keep soil slightly moist but not wet.
Plug Culture:  From Stage II* reduce the moisture, but the plug should not dry out and reduce the temperature to 15 °C. Do not let soluble salt level rise above 0,75 EC. Start fertilization at 50-75 ppm nitrogen in a well balanced formula. During Stage III and Stage IV fertilization levels can be increased up to 200 ppm.
Growing On:  2-4 weeks after sowing transplant 1 plant into a pack or pot (9-10 cm) and 2-3 plants into a bigger pot (11-15 cm).
Media:  Use a well-drained, growing substrate with 15-30 % clay, 1-3 kg/m³ complete balanced fertilizer, iron-chelate, micronutrients, pH: 5.5-5.8.
Photoperiod / Light:  Long day plants. The long day (14 h) supports the flower initiation, as well as the flower development and the intensity of the flower colours. Mimulus needs high light levels. Flowering pots production in winter and in early spring with additional assimilation light will improve the plant quality and decrease the cultivation time. In summer protect young plants against high intensity of sunlight.
Temperature:  Grow at 10-15 °C during daytime and at 5-7 °C during night. High temperatures above 16 °C supports the shoot stretching. Keep cold temperatures, this promote a compact plant growth and a good plant quality. Mimulus does not tolerate temperatures below 4 °C.
Fertilization:  High fertilization levels are required. Fertilize the crop weekly with 200-300 ppm nitrogen, using a potassium balanced fertilizer (N: K2O-ratio: 1:1,5). Take care of a good phosphate supply. Avoid high ammonium and high nitrogen levels. Prevent magnesium deficiency by applying magnesium sulphate (0,025 %) 1-2 times and in case of Iron deficiency apply iron-chelate for 1-2 times.
Cultural Hints:  Cultivate in plug stage rather moist and after transplanting rather dry. Avoid over head irrigation at start of flowering. Pinching the top once after transplanting will increase the branching and increase the quantity of the flowers. After cutting remove faded flowers in order that a second flowering appears. A beautiful product for Mother's Day.

Hint
The cultural recommendations are based on results from trials conducted under Central European conditions. Different conditions in other parts of the world may lead to deviations in results achieved.
