| Sowing Time: | |
January-April
| Sowing Method: | |
1-3 seeds per plug, sowing directly into final pot is recommended
| Germination: | |
12-15 days at 20-26 °C, in media with low soluble salt levels and pH: 5.8-6.5. Requires light for germination. Soak seeds in warm water for 24 h before sowing. Before sowing treat substrate the fungicide against Pythium. Do not cover seeds. Keep soil slightly moist but not wet. Avoid direct sunlight by shading seeds after sowing.
| Plug Culture: | |
From Stage II* reduce the soil moisture, but the plug should not dry out and reduce the temperature to 20 °C. Do not let soluble salt level rise above 0,5 EC. Start fertilization at 50 ppm nitrogen in a well balanced formula. During Stage III and Stage IV fertilization levels can be increased to 150-200 ppm.
| Growing On: | |
6-8 weeks after sowing transplant 2 plants into a pot (9-10 cm) and 3-5 plants into a bigger pot (11-15 cm) or into a container (3-5 l).
| Media: | |
Use a well-drained, growing substrate with 15-30 % clay, 1-3 kg/m³ complete balanced fertilizer, iron-chelate, micronutrients, pH: 5.5-5.8.
| Temperature: | |
Grow at 18-20 °C. After development of the roots decrease the temperature slowly to 18 °C . A cold cultivation temperature will result in a more compact plant habit. Temperatures below 15 °C will inhibit the growth and temperatures below 5 °C will damage the plants. Wintering indoors,
in conservatory or cold greenhouse is possible.
| Fertilization: | |
Moderate-high fertilization levels are required. Fertilize the crop weekly with 150-200 ppm nitrogen, using a potassium balanced fertilizer (N: K2O-ratio: 1:1,5). Avoid high ammonium and high nitrogen levels. Prevent magnesium deficiency by applying magnesium sulphate (0,025 %) 1-2 times and in case of iron deficiency (above pH 6.0) apply iron-chelate for 1-2 times.
| Cultural Hints: | |
Cultivate first rather moist and later rather dry. Avoid over head irrigation.
Hint
The cultural recommendations are based on results from trials conducted under Central European conditions. Different conditions in other parts of the world may lead to deviations in results achieved.
