| Sowing Time: | |
February-May
| Sowing Method: | |
1 seed per plug
| Germination: | |
4-6 days at 26-30 °C during daytime and at 20-21 °C during night. in media with low soluble salt levels and pH: 5.5-6.0. Requires light for germination. Cover seed lightly with vermiculite after sowing. Germination before End of February requires supplemental lighting. Keep soil slightly moist but not wet.
| Plug Culture: | |
From Stage II* reduce the moisture, but the plug should not dry out. Do not let soluble salt level rise above 0,75 EC. Start fertilization at 75 ppm nitrogen in a well balanced formula. During Stage III and Stage IV fertilization levels can be increased up to 200-250 ppm.
| Growing On: | |
3-4 weeks after gsowing transplant 1 plant into a pot (9-15 cm) and 1-3 plants into a bigger pot (15-25 cm) or into a container (3-5 l).
| Media: | |
Use a well-drained, growing substrate with 20-30 % clay, 0-15 % parts (e.g. bark, perlite, sand), 3 kg/m³ complete balanced fertilizer, 0-2 kg/m³ slow release fertilizer (3-6 months), iron-chelate, micronutrients, pH: 5.5-6.0.
| Temperature: | |
Grow at 18-25 °C. Cleome needs warm temperatures and does not tolerate in young stages temperatures below 10 °C. For selling it is recommended to harden the plants slowly. Cleome does not tolerate frost.
| Fertilization: | |
High fertilization levels are required. Fertilize the crop weekly with 200-250 ppm nitrogen (at 2 kg/m³ slow release fertilizer in substrate), using a potassium balanced fertilizer (N: K2O-ratio: 1:1,5). Avoid high ammonium and high nitrogen levels.
| Cultural Hints: | |
Cultivate in an open area with sufficient circulation. Don't produce too close. Avoid overwatering and cultivate not too dry.
Hint
The cultural recommendations are based on results from trials conducted under Central European conditions. Different conditions in other parts of the world may lead to deviations in results achieved.
