| Sowing Method: | |
2-3 seeds per plug
| Germination: | |
14-16 days at 15 °C, in media with low soluble salt levels and pH: 5.5-6.0. Requires light for germination. Do not cover seed. Keep soil slightly moist but not wet.
Avoid direct sunlight by shading seed after sowing. Temperatures above 16 °C may inhibit the germination.
| Plug Culture: | |
From Stage II* reduce the moisture, but the plug should not dry out. Do not let soluble salt level rise above 0,75 EC. Start fertilization at 50 ppm nitrogen in a well balanced formula. During Stage III and Stage IV fertilization levels can be increased up to 100-150 ppm.
| Growing On: | |
6 weeks after sowing transplant 1-2 plants into a pot (9-12 cm).
| Media: | |
Use a well-drained, growing substrate with 20-30 % clay, 1,5 kg/m³ complete balanced fertilizer, iron-chelate, micronutrients, pH: 5.5-6.0.
| Temperature: | |
Grow at 10-15 °C. Calceolaria integrifolia does not tolerate frost.
| Fertilization: | |
Moderate fertilization levels are required. Fertilize the crop weekly with 100-150 ppm nitrogen, using a complete balanced fertilizer. Avoid high ammonium and high nitrogen levels. Prevent magnesium deficiency by applying magnesium sulphate (0,025 %) 1-2 times and in case of iron deficiency apply iron-chelate for 1-2 times. After iron-chelate fertilization rinse the leafs with water. Avoid salt levels in substrate above 2 g/l. Control the pH in substrate regulary.
| Cultural Hints: | |
Cultivate plants slightly moist but not wet. Remove the plant tops after transplanting for better branching and good plant quality.
Hint
The cultural recommendations are based on results from trials conducted under Central European conditions. Different conditions in other parts of the world may lead to deviations in results achieved.
