Outdoors: End April (frost free) onwards
| Sowing Method: | |
1-2 seeds per plug, sowing directly into fields is recommended.
| Germination: | |
14-21 days at 15-18 °C, in media with low soluble salt levels and pH: 6.0-7.0. Cover seed with vermiculite, sand or substrate after sowing. Keep soil slightly moist but not wet. In field the sowing need to be covered by fleece or foil to avoid dry out. Outdoors: need to be protected the young plants against frost at ground soil.
| Plug Culture: | |
From Stage II* reduce the soil moisture but not too dry. Do not let soluble salt level rise above 0,75 EC. Start fertilization at 75 ppm nitrogen in a well balanced formula. During Stage III and Stage IV fertilization levels can be increased to 100 ppm.
| Growing On: | |
4-5 weeks after the sowing transplant to field. Plant cut flowers in 30x40 cm space.
| Media: | |
Field: well-drained, moderate nutrition supply, loamy soils with good drainage. Standard fertilization: 60-80 g/m² slow release fertilizer.
| Temperature: | |
Grow at 15-24 °C or outdoors. Bupleurum does not grow at temperatures below
8 °C and does not tolerate frost.
| Fertilization: | |
Moderate fertilization levels are required. If necessary according to analysis, improve the soil with 100 ppm nitrogen weekly, using a complete balanced fertilizer.
| Cut Flowers: | |
Cut flower stems can be harvested, when 50 % of the flowers are open. Put the stems in water immediately. Vase life: 7-10 days. Cold storage is possible.
| Cultural Hints: | |
Periodic cultivation in intervals from 2-3 weeks. Do not cultivate the plant too dry or too wet.
Hint
