The new Ptilotus 'Joey'TM is truly a breeding breakthrough. A native to central Australia, Ptilotus offers exceptional beauty and the side benefit of heat and drought tolerance. Large, conical spikes of feathery flowers top thick silver green foliage. The 3-4" (7-10 cm) bottlebrush flower spikes are glistening silver with a darker neon pink color near the tips. Offered as ApeX Seed, Ptilotus 'Joey' TM offers growers exceptional germination rates and a high percentage of transplantable plugs. Short crop times (approximately 12-16 weeks) allow for quick returns on this truly unique crop. Excellent as an accent in mixed containers or as a compliment in annual flower beds, 'Joey' TM is a must have in any sunny garden location. Germination:  5-7 days at 24-26 °C
Plug Culture:  Requires light for germination. Cover seed lightly with vermiculite after sowing. From Stage II moderate soil moisture levels. Stage III: Gradually lower temperatures to 21-24 °C and lower soil moisture levels. Stage IV: Temperatures can be reduced to 18 °C. Transplant plugs as scheduled and do not let plugs get root bound.
Growing On:  6-8 weeks after sowing transplant 1 plug into a 10-12 cm pot or 3 plugs into a 3 l container
Media:  Use a well-drained media, pH 5.5-6.5
Photoperiod / Light:  Day neutral, but a light summation flowering response. Higher light levels promote shorter, better-branched plants with larger flowers.
Temperature:  Grow at 20-24 °C. Avoid temperatures below 10 °C
Fertilization:  Moderate to high fertilization levels are required. Fertilize the crop weekly with 100-150 ppm nitrogen (2 kg/m3 slow release fertilizer in substrate), using a complete and balanced fertilizer. Avoid high ammonium and high nitrogen levels. Take care of the phosphate level in substrate.
Cultural Hints:  Before transplanting a fungicide treatment against soil-born diseases is recommendable.
