'White'

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Life Cycle:  Annual
Familiy, Origin:  Apiaceae, Orient
Sitelocation:  Full sun - partial shade
Garden Height:  80 cm
  31,5 inch
Crop Time:  Plug crop: 8-12 weeks, depending on season; Flowering pots: 16-20 weeks, depending on season; Cut flower production: 16-20 weeks, depending on season
Seed Form:  Raw Seed
Seed Count:  1176 K/g
Sowing Time:  January-April for indoor cut flower production; April-May for outdoor cut flower production
Sowing Method:  3-5 seeds per plug, tap rooted, can be sown directly into fields (15 g/100 m²)
Germination:  10-12 days at 15-18 °C in media with low soluble salt levels and pH: 5.5-6.5. Cover seed with vermiculite, sand or substrate after sowing. Keep soil slightly moist but not wet. In the field sowings need to be covered by fleece or foil to avoid drying out.
Plug Culture:  From Stage II reduce the soil moisture, but the plug should not dry out and reduce the temperature to 12-15 °C. Do not let soluble salt level rise above 0,50 EC. Start fertilization at 75 ppm nitrogen in a well balanced formula. During Stage III and Stage IV fertilization levels can be increased to 80-100 ppm.
Growing On:  4-5 weeks after sowing transplant 1 plant into a pot (10-15 cm). Plant as early as possible and avoid root damage. Plant cut flowers in 30x35 cm space.
Media:  Use a well-drained, growing substrate with 15-30 % clay, 1,5 kg/m³ complete balanced fertilizer, iron-chelate, micronutrients, pH: 5.5-6.5. Field: well-drained, moderate nutrition supply, humus, loamy soils. Ammi have low demands to the soil. Standard fertilization: 60-80 g/m² slow release fertilizer.
Temperature:  Grow at 15-22 °C. Ammi does not tolerate temperatures below 4 °C.
Fertilization:  Slow fertilization levels are required. Fertilize the crop weekly with 80-100 ppm nitrogen using a complete balanced fertilizer. Avoid high ammonium and high nitrogen levels. Avoid pH above 6.0, as high pH causes iron deficiency. Apply chelated iron if chlorosis becomes a problem.
Cut Flowers:  Cut flower stems can be harvested, when 30 % of the flowers bottom umbels are open and the head umbel is white. Side umbels can be harvested when they are white, too. Put the stems in water immediately. Vase life: 10-14 days. Cold storage is possible. For dried flower production the umbels may be dyed.
Cultural Hints:  Periodic cultivation in intervals from 2-3 weeks. Early cultivation (harvest End June-July) produces higher yield than later cultivation (e.g. 50-60 % more). Protect flowers from the midday sun in order to keep the flower stability. The seeds from Ammi are very poisonous.

Hint
The cultural recommendations are based on results from trials conducted under Central European conditions. Different conditions in other parts of the world may lead to deviations in results achieved.
