Pansies are still the big topic. With the pansy 'Fancy' and 'Cats'® team, Benary is following two equally promising paths: 'Fancy', the compact pansy series for reliable mass production in early spring and fall, is building on its excellent market position with more and better colors.
Following last year's winner in the competition of innovations 'Fancy Purple & Orange' with Blotch, another "tricolor" is on the starting roster this year: 'Fancy Violet & Yellow' will be making its debut on Benary's stage as a 2007-2008 pansy favorite.
'Cats'® is still the unrivalled pansy trend-setter, receiving a boost from attractive point-of-sale promotional material, available from Floramedia. Labels, posters, tabletop display cards, and a 'Cats'® website, are sure to increase the popularity of these exceptional pansies. Another new 'Cats'® color is already in the works: 'Cats® Light Blue' will be launched next season, adding a delicate pastel shade to the 'Cats'® family.
The next Benary summer will generate lots of profitable curiosities with big money making potential. Along with additional colors in the extremely successful, bronze leaf begonia novelties 'Nightlife' and 'Nonstop® Mocca', the Fleuroselect Gold Medal Winner Salvia farinacea 'Fairy Queen' will be at the focus of Benary's presentation at the IPM. With its unique wealth of blue and white flowers and compact bushy habit, it is a salvia innovation that enables growers to produce premium quality at low cost.
An annualized perennial and earlier to flower than any other variety of its species, Lavandula 'Vicenza' will be setting new worldwide standards for lavender in 2007-2008. Especially bred for highly profitable pot cultivation, it is also a great long-lived garden perennial.
Completing this year's range of new FastraX perennial highlights on display at Benary's IPM booth are the popular Delphinium series 'Summer' with its soft pink new addition 'Summer Morning', and the compact Astilbe series 'Astary'®, starting its first season at the producer level.
