Plantarium 2005: Benary's New Platform to Sell Perennials and Specialities

What do tree nurseries have to do with Benary? Are news markets opening up to bedding plant production? What does a company that breeds flower seed have to offer nurseries? Benary will be answering these questions and many more at the famous international fair of nursery stock.

Perennials, summer flowering potted plants and landscape varieties are still on the upswing, offering manifold sales opportunities. This discovery has long been known in the ornamental industry. This trend does not come to a halt in front of tree nurseries. This is why Benary, one of the world's leading breeders of perennial plants, will participate in the Plantarium 2005 from August 24-27 with a booth of its own.

With this participation, Benary will strengthen its direct dialogue with producers and retailers. Benary seed breeders offer excellent genetics in classic perennials and annualized varieties from Benary's FastraX Program of Perennials. In 2005, Benary's range of 350 perennial varieties has been expanded by seven new highlights, including the new Penstemon 'Mystica' with a beautiful habit, an abundance of flowers and excellent ApeX Seed Quality. The most recent attraction from the fast and vernalization-free FastraX perennials is the new compact Scabiosa 'Ritz Blue', which is ideal as an alternative spring flower for production along with pansies. Other Benary items that enhance the assortment of tree nurseries or perennial growers include lobelias, for example the new 'Fan® Salmon', and the new Lychnis 'Lumina' trio.

Along with perennials, Benary will be presenting vigorous annual landscape varieties that add lasting dashes of color to larger park areas. One of them is classic for public green areas, the Begonia 'Sprint' series. The focus of Benary's display at the Plantarium will be the new All American Selections winner Salvia 'Evolution' with an intense deep violet flower color and a compact bushy habit. The sweeping Celosia 'Fresh Look' series in red, yellow and orange shades and the striking bright yellow Rudbeckia 'Prairie Sun' are ideal items for cost-efficient landscaping. “Innovation is a vital strategy for us, which is why we use new channels of distribution for new products. Our experience has been positive so far, and encourages us to follow this path further with full confidence. From discussions with nursery professionals we know that our perennials and landscape varieties hold great potential. The Plantarium is an ideal platform to strengthen our business in the Netherlands as well as Europe-wide,” says Pim Westerman, Benary's Sales Manager for the Netherlands and northwest Europe.
