Municipal Administrations Looking for New Permanent Bloomers in Public Arena

As communities need to cut costs, they are looking for economical labor-saving alternatives for public area plantings. Meeting these requirements, Benary offers durable and robust highlights for the spring and summer seasons.

Municipal nurseries throughout Europe are using Polyanthus 'Crescendo'® for dashes of color in public greens in spring. One of Europe's most popular spring perennials, 'Crescendo'® is fully hardy, not only tolerating harsh temperatures below freezing but also coping with wet and cold soils, allowing growers to forget about winter losses. Growers appreciate 'Crescendo'® as the best supplement to pansy production, along with valuing its flowering and overwintering warranty. Planted in the fall, all seven of the 'Crescendo'® colors bloom very early on in the spring. Its earliness, plant habit and color power make the 'Crescendo'® series a hot seller in the spring assortment. Along with 'Crescendo'®, Benary also offers a range of other attractive spring flowers, one of them being the new F1 pansy 'Cats'®, a sensational success everywhere since its introduction on the market. It has the same production requirements as any other F1 pansy, branches profusely and forms a magnificent plant that makes a fresh and bold color statement. The new colors of the successful F1 'Fancy' pansy series, the rich 'Fancy Violet' and the deep burgundy 'Fancy Ruby' combined with the fresh 'Fancy White with Red Blotch' or the even more compact improved 'Fancy Yellow with Blotch', add attractive contrasts to any spring planting.

For summer flowers in public green spaces and parks, high rain tolerance and drought resistance are major selection criteria. Benary’s large-flowered fibrous begonias stand out for their high durability and quick regeneration capacity. The green leaf 'Lotto'® series, which now includes the new 'Lotto® Appleblossom', is particularly robust with an impressive color and distant effect. Its giant flowers come in scarlet, pink, and white shades.

Rudbeckia hirta 'Prairie Sun' is a double medal winner in Europe and the USA for its bright yellow flower pattern and sturdy bushy habit. Lasting flower power from June through September and an enormous drought tolerance make 'Prairie Sun' ideal for extensive plantings. The new 'Fresh Look' celosias in bright yellow, bright red and brilliant orange are heat lovers too. The particular strength of all of these three exceptional celosias is their robustness and prolific flowering in the garden from June right up until the first frost. 'Fresh Look Yellow' and 'Fresh Look Red' won high Fleuroselect and AAS awards for their intense basal branching and durability.

Creating a similarly fantastic color effect is the new Salvia farinacea 'Evolution'. The long deep violet flower spikes are crowded with flowers the same color as the stems. Just as long-lived and healthy as the bicolor white-and-blue 'Reference', the fine silvery white 'Silver', and the blue 'Victoria', 'Evolution' flowers from July through October. At 40 cm garden height, 'Evolution' is more compact than other salvia varieties - a delicate profusely branching item for group plantings with a great distant effect.

With these rain resistant and drought tolerant incessant bloomers, Benary offers very profitable alternatives to the usual spring and summer flowers seen in public places. After all, as budgets tighten, varieties that require little maintenance and relatively few plants per area unit while producing an extraordinary abundance of flowers and stunning color effects, all add up to mean hard cash savings.
